Opened up the June edition of Trout/Salmon and a news report together with pic of a cracking 7lb 8oz eel caught on a 'cats whisker' on sinking line by guide Rob Waddington, at first he thought it was a pike, just before hooking the fish he had already had his 12.5lb leader bitten cleanly by one what got off.

Fabulous must have been some fun! I hooked an unseen monster at Rutland a few years ago. It took a nymph fished very slowly on a Wet Cel 2 and then head down. It was an unstoppable force for a while but although I got some measure of control over it the leader finally parted, the fish had had most of my fly line off the reel but ended up straight down under the boat before we waved our goodbyes. I'm certain from the way it moved that it wasn't a trout. Pike, carp or now a big eel might be the likely suspects. I remain convinced that both Rutland and Grafham contain course fish of record beating proportions.
